Around the Web–Loving Lord Ash

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

A few days ago, I was emailing with the fabulous Mary Jo Putney, and we got to talking about animals in books, specifically the dog in Loving Lord Ash. Yes, Ash doesn’t come out until March, but Mary Jo got a sneak peek. And you can meet Fluff, too, if you go read the first chapter here. In the beginning of the book Fluff’s name is Kit. You’ll probably figure out why he gets a new name after you read the chapter!

When I wrote Kit/Fluff, I was picturing the modern version of a Newfoundland. Mary Jo wondered if the breed existed in the Regency, and I was able to say yes! Lord Byron wrote an ode to his favorite newfie. Bryon’s dog might not have been as big and fluffy as Fluff, though, so I’m saying Fluff is a mutt to appease my need for historical accuracy. (We historical writers have to check these things out, if we can.)

Mary Jo blogged about our conversation on the Word Wenches blog which you can find here.

New Look for My Web Site and The Naked Laird

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

Welcome to my new, improved web site! I’m very excited about it. Vibeke Courtney at DreamForge Media did a great job, don’t you think?

Please look around. Some things are the same, but many things are different. I’ve added first chapter excerpts for all my books, buy buttons for audio and foreign editions, and some new links. I have a new newsletter system which I hope will make sending out information about my new releases and appearances easier for you and for me, and I’ve added this blog page that you can subscribe to via RSS feed. (It will take me a while to master this blogging process, so I apologize in advance for any bloopers.) And, much to my delight and after a lot of trial and error, we’ve come up with a way to include many of my photos. I’ll be adding more pictures and captions in the coming weeks. I’m not a professional photographer by a long shot—I didn’t need to tell you that, did I?—but I love taking pictures, especially on my travels, and I love looking at them, remembering the fun and the new historical facts I learned.

If you find any problems as you’re clicking around here, please let me know. You can comment below or email me. I’ve tried to check everything out, but fresh eyes can often find something “old” eyes have missed. And if there’s something not here that you’d like to see, let me know that, too.

And now to my other news—I’m delighted to say that Kensington, my publisher, is bringing out as separate e-books my two Naked novellas. First up—today!!—is “The Naked Laird.” The story, the very first novella I ever wrote, appeared in the Lords of Desire anthology in 2009. If you click on the cover here, you’ll go to “The Naked Laird” page and be able to read the first chapter. Be sure to follow the link to the Frequently Asked Questions page to see how this story fits into the Naked Nobility series. And looking ahead, “The Naked Prince,” which comes out December 31, is already up for preorder on some bookseller sites! And can I say, I love the new covers?
